Why Human Eyes Beat AI in Nub Theory Predictions

With AI tools and instant replies are becoming more common, it’s tempting to think technology can predict your baby’s gender in seconds. But when it comes to Nub Theory, nothing compares to the trained human eye.
I’ve been specialising in Nub Theory for over 15 years, and I’ve seen first-hand why accurate readings take skill, patience, and context — things AI simply can’t match.
First, What is Nub Theory?
Nub Theory is a method used mainly beyond 12 weeks of pregnancy to predict or even determine a baby’s gender based on the angle, appearance and the development of the genital tubercle (the “nub”). When the nub points upwards at a certain angle, it’s likely a boy; when it’s flatter, it’s likely a girl.
Sounds simple, right? But in reality, there’s so much more to it than a single angle measurement.
what human eyes do? the angle of the dangle is just 1 part.. appearance and age comes into it, nubs can vary with position, and machine used to capture that sweet image of your baby. there are many types of appearance's trained eyes can see.
The Problem With AI and Nub Theory
AI software often promises quick results, but there are some major limitations:
Angle detection issues – AI struggles when baby is curled, wriggling, or captured at a tricky position.
Over-reliance on templates – AI applies rigid “male” or “female” cut-offs without allowing for natural variations.
No developmental context – AI doesn’t understand how different babies develop at slightly different speeds.
Ignores scan quality – Blurred, partial, or shadowed images can still be “read” by AI — but with poor accuracy.
I’ve reviewed many AI results that looked convincing… until you actually examine the scan. In some cases, the nub wasn’t even imaged, yet a confident “boy” or “girl” label was still given, if you ask ai to point of label were the Nub is, it does it completely random and not at the Nub at all. its proven to just give those boy or girl prompts. i once sent a scan and ask for any information regarding babies development, the baby had their head turned away rather than a complete face profile, yet worryingly, Ai told me this baby was incompatible with life as baby had anencephaly! which was NOT the case at all..

What the Human Eye Can Do That AI Can’t
Here’s where trained human assessment makes all the difference:
Spot unsuitable scans instantly – If a nub isn’t visible, I’ll tell you, not guess.
Account for individual variation – Some boys rise later, some earlier, being transparent is key. gender disappointment can be very real to many.
Look beyond the angle – full visibility of the whole nub is priority! then comes the Shape, the nub in the correct placement to not mistake it for anything else..
Adapt to unusual cases – AI will almost always produce a result, even if it’s just 50:50. I’d rather be honest and preserve accuracy, refunds are given in these cases. not a full Nub? or simply has not imaged. i cannot give an answer.
would you trust Ai over human eyes for Nub?
yes
no
Real-Life Examples
I’ve had clients come to me after AI gave a confident “girl” prediction at 12 weeks, only for the 20-week scan to reveal a boy — all because the AI read a partially imaged nub as flat.
Another case? An AI tool gave “boy” in under 5 seconds. The scan didn’t even contain the genital area, another case? a mam was told girl from ai, dad sent in the same scans, but Ai told him boy? its not a coincidence for this, of course its 50:50 so you may think it can be correct for people.. but it is a pure guess.
These aren’t one-off mistakes. They’re the result of systems that don’t understand context.
Why Accuracy Matters
A wrong prediction isn’t just a technical error — it can cause disappointment, emotional upset, and mistrust. I’ve always been clear: I never make a 50:50 guess just to keep a payment. Accuracy is the priority over speed, want a quick result? i understand.. Nubs are easy to me from the years of experience.. but giving a quick result can lead to mistakes.
When you book a Nub Theory analysis with me, you get a genuine review from a human specialist who has spent years studying and refining the skill.
Final Thoughts
AI is incredible in many areas, but Nub Theory isn’t one of them — at least not yet.
Your baby’s scan deserves careful, honest interpretation, and that means having a real person review it.

if you only have a scan from 8-10 weeks why not try ramzi theory? this method is more for fun! but current personal accuracy is 86%
if your 15 weeks! i can give reassurance, wheather that be a side profile (showing gender of course, the Nub does not fall off! it simply matures, or you have a between the leg shots and you want it confirming <3
